Journey of Faith"The opposite of faith is not doubt; it is unbelief. Doubt only needs more facts. Unbelief is disobedience and refuses to act in accordance with what God has declared." -Charles Finney

The Blue Tank Lives On

I started my 5-day weekend with a bang...literally.  I had a minor crash with a cycle today.  His fault.  It wedged under my car and I had to replace my exhaust system.  I was unharmed, and his injuries were minor.  I am very grateful to the Lord.  I was very worried after I felt the impact and looked back and didn't see anything.  The officer said that for an old car I came out well.  Yes, that's b/c it's a tank, I said.    She's rolling at 175,000 miles and counting.  I do think that the whole thing was strangely ordained by God.  While we waited for the officer, we had LOTS of time to make the connection that the cyclist works at a nearby prison where some of our Lydia Center ladies come from.  I really sensed that He is doing something in him.  I hope that somehow in our conversation and my calm response to the accident that I was Jesus to him today.

In other news, my sister Mel and bro-in-law Jon are graduating from Lancaster Bible College on Saturday.  Alliyah and Brianna are being dedicated at church on Sunday.  We're going to Longwood Gardens near Philly for Mother's Day...will be a lovely and busy weekend!

I am starting a calling/discernment program with Eastern Mennonite Missions this month and am very excited.  I will be here for a while, but it feels good to be starting.

That's all.  The end.

Here's Me Smiling...

I am content.

I think God enjoys taking me through growing pains emotionally and spiritually, but that's ok.  By definition, the pain brings the growth, and it feels good to be growing.  I've now been at the Lydia Center for 2 1/2 years, and what stretching and rewarding years they have been!  I think the majority of my growth has come from my experiences there.  Our staff is still working through "The Genesis Process."  If you want to change, truly, pick up that book and work through it with a group of close friends...but only do it if you're willing to be completely real and vulnerable...otherwise it won't be as effective.  You learn a lot about yourself...

Spring is great!  There are lots of baby lambs in the meadow next to my apartment, and I really enjoy them.    I also spent some time sitting by the river today, and that is always relaxing.

I learned how to sew a curtain yesterday, and am feeling very domestic...especially since I am nearing completion on the scarf that I began in DTS 3 1/2 years ago!    Oh, well...at least I'm finishing.

I'm the VBS coordinator for our church this year...which is proving to be a very interesting task, indeed.  Had I known what I was getting myself in for, I'm not sure I would have agreed...we shall see how it goes.

A definite highlight is spending time with my nieces.  They are now about 7 1/2 months and are just adorable!  Alliyah likes toys; Brianna likes books.  Several weeks ago, they graduated to rice cereal!  I'm sometimes there Saturday nights, so I get to give them their baths, which they love.  My favorite thing is to put them in the "kangaroo pouches" and take them outside for walks.    I am known as "Aunt Bean."

So that's about it for my update...we'll see how many months it goes til I get here again!

Back to Genesis...

The holidays were quite lovely!  I came up to the Center Christmas morning to watch the ladies open their mountain of gifts and then had a duck dinner with my family (minus the married sisters plus Grandma.)  Great day!

I am presently reading The Genesis Process.  (Amazon doesn't have a picture for it.)  It is an amazing resource that our staff is presently working through together, and rescue missions across the nation who are becoming "grace-based" are adopting.  The philosophy of the book is that everyone is addicted to something, and seeks to help us answer Paul's question, "Why do I do the thing I don't want to do?"  So we 8 ladies are working through it together, addressing our addictions, and holding each other accountable to working toward recovery.  Think only "druggies" have addictions?  Your addiction may have something to do with being self-righteous!  Deep, deep stuff, but very, very good!

Health and Wealth (and a party!)

So let me just say that I don't believe in a prosperity gospel.  The past 2 months have held concerns in both areas for me.  I am thankful that the Lord designed and knows my body, that He knows the sum of my pennies, and is mindful of caring for me in both areas.

We recently had a talent show at the Lydia Center.  The ladies were encouraged to participate, and we as staff did, as well.  We were a rock band to Chris Tomlin's "Party" song.  It was amazing...with lights, instruments, rock band-ish clothes, red and blue hair dye, etc.  We air-guitarred, -drummed, and lip-synced.  I was the drummer.    ...the ladies told me I need more practice, though, so I guess I won't quit my day job yet.

Happy Thanksgiving!  I'll be with my fam and the precious babies...

Conflicting Verbs

Missing Africa.  Remembering Costa Rica.  Wanting to be overseas.  Knowing that the Lord is developing and preparing me.  Committed to the Lydia Center.  Loving my coworkers and our ladies.  Staying here for now.  Longing for then.  Loving now.
